Sustainability

Environmental Sustainability

APL aims to minimize the environmental impact of its growth and prove that rising global trade and a healthy planet can be compatible aims. Energy Efficient Design Index Innovative technology and design results in an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) improvement on new builds that is 33.4% below the International Maritime Organization's base line for containerships. Initiatives APL's original target, to reduce C02 emissions 30% below the 2009 baseline level by 2015, was achieved two years early when APL successfully reduced CO2 emissions by 33.8% in 2013. 'Green' vessels featuring the latest energy saving technology and operated at reduced speeds will give the carbon exhaust cuts significant impetus. APL is also undertaking additional steps to curb carbon emissions as part of its commitment to sustainability.

These include

  • Optimizing vessel trim, speed and routing
  • Improving maintenance on vessel hulls to reduce drag in the water
  • Upgrading cargo handling equipment at APL terminals
