I am currently a first year MT based in our Stratford, London office. I have just finished my first rotation which I spent working in local trade. Having not coming from a shipping background initially getting to grips with the industry and understanding its complexity was certainly one of my biggest challenge. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the industry, there honestly isn’t a day that goes by without learning something new. Having developed a genuine interest for the industry and also having very knowledgeable (and patient) colleagues has made integration into the industry enjoyable. Despite being new to the world of shipping I have been given a lot of responsibility; managing allocation for our Transatlantic and Europe-Asia routes, presenting sales and management meetings and quoting inland haulage rates to name a few!
Having finished my first stint on the commercial side of the business I have now moved over to the operational side. I have just begun in network logistics where my responsibilities will be focused on cargo management and process improvement. I hope my experience will be as insightful and enjoyable as my first rotation. I will keep you updated on my next blog.
